RULES AND REQUIREMENTS

The definition of a team
Teams may consist of families, friends, relatives, or mentors. The only requirement is that each team must consist of at least one adult aged 18 years or older and one child under 18 years old.

Permission forms
The parent or guardian for each Acadia Quest participant under the age of 18 must sign the permission form that is included in the Acadia Quest registration packet and return it to Friends of Acadia. Teams that do not have all of the permission forms signed and returned will not be considered registered and will not be eligible for the grand prize drawing(s).

How to participate
Use the information in your registration packet and the information provided on this website to plan your Quest activities. To be eligible to win the grand prize(s), teams must complete two Quest activities in the following three categories: Explore, Learn, and Protect.

Explore requirements
Complete two activities in this category. Choose between National Junior Ranger Day, Family Fun Day, a self-guided ride on the Island Explorer, a self-guided EarthCache adventure, or one activity of the team’s choice. (See events and activities for more information.)

Learn requirements
Complete two activities in this category. Choose between National Junior Ranger Day, National Trails Day, Family Fun Day, Ranger-led Programs, or Schoodic Lecture Series. Teams may elect to do two ranger-led programs or attend two of the Schoodic lectures to meet the requirements. (See events and activities for more information.)

Protect requirements
Complete two activities in this category. Choose between Earth Day Roadside Clean-Up, Volunteer Work Days in the Park, National Trails Day, or Take Pride in Acadia Day. Teams may elect to do two volunteer work days in the park to meet the requirements. (See events and activities for more information.)

Some events fall under more than one category, but the event may only count once. For example, if you plan to use Family Fun Day to fulfill one of the Explore requirements, you may not use it to fulfill one of the Learn requirements.

Verifying event or activity completion
Use the Quest Card included in your registration packet to track your team’s participation. For guided events, obtain a signature from the event or activity leader or organizer. For self-guided events, use the following Self Documentation Guidelines:

Self Documentation Guidelines
For self-guided activities in the Explore category, self documentation through photos or writing is required to be eligible for the prize drawing. Use the camera provided in your registration packet to take pictures of your team in action and send a photograph to the address below. Teams may also submit a written response, detailing its park activity. For both photo and written documentation, be sure to include the name of your team leader and team members, where in the park your activity took place, and what team members learned and enjoyed. After receiving your documentation, we will contact you by phone or email with a code for you to fill in on your Quest Card, which will verify completion of the activity. With your permission, photos and written responses may be used by Friends of Acadia and Acadia National Park for promotional purposes. Documentation may be sent by email to terry@friendsofacadia.org, or by mail to Friends of Acadia, PO Box 45, Bar Harbor, ME 04609.

How to compete for the grand prize(s)
The first 100 teams that register and successfully complete (and verify participation in) the required number of Acadia Quest events or activities will be eligible for the grand prize drawings. All teams that register and complete the quest will receive a completion certificate.

The winning teams will be drawn on Saturday, November 1, at Take Pride in Acadia Day. Teams may use Take Pride in Acadia Day as their last event and enter their Quest Card that day. Quest teams that will not participate in Take Pride in Acadia Day may mail their completed Quest Card and any supporting self documentation to Friends of Acadia, PO Box 45, Bar Harbor, ME 04609. Cards and documentation must be postmarked by October 15 in order to be entered into the prize drawing on November 1. Teams do not have to be present to win.
