RULES AND REQUIREMENTS
The definition of a team
Teams may consist of families, friends, relatives, or mentors. The only requirement is that each team must consist of at least one adult aged 18 years or older and one child under 18 years old.
Permission forms
The parent or guardian for each Acadia Quest participant under the age of 18 must sign the permission form that is included in the Acadia Quest registration packet and return it to Friends of Acadia. Teams that do not have all of the permission forms signed and returned will not be considered registered and will not be eligible for the grand prize drawing(s).
How to participate
Use the information in your registration packet and the information provided on this website to plan your Quest activities. To receive the 2011 Acadia Quest patch and be eligible to win the grand prize(s), teams must complete six Quest activities in at least four of the categories of Hike, Bike, Walk, Boat/Swim, and Events.
Verifying event or activity completion
Use the Quest Card included in your registration packet to track your team’s participation. For events, volunteer work day, ranger programs, and riding the Island Explorer, please obtain a signature from an event volunteer, ranger, or bus driver. All other activities require self-documentation; see below for self-documentation guidelines.
Self-Documentation Guidelines
In order to receive a 2011 Acadia Quest patch and qualify for the grand prize(s), teams must provide self-documentation of each individual activity requiring it. For each activity you self-document, please include 1) your team name, 2) what activity you completed, 3) a photograph, drawing, or written description of your Quest activity, and 4) any specific response requested in the activity description. Submit self-documentation:
VIA MAIL: to Friends of Acadia, PO Box 45, Bar Harbor, ME 04609
VIA EMAIL: to terry@friendsofacadia.org
VIA FACEBOOK: on Friends of Acadia's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/FriendsofAcadia. For Facebook self-documentation, please include the phrase "Acadia Quest" and your team name somewhere in your post. You will need to "like" our page in order to post to it.
After receiving your self-documentation, we will contact you by phone or e-mail with a code to enter in your Quest card, which will verify completion of the activity. With your permission, photos and written responses may be used by Friends of Acadia or Acadia National Park for promotional purposes.
How to compete for the grand prize(s)
The first 100 teams that register and successfully complete (and verify) the required number of activities will be eligible for the grand prize drawing(s). Each team member under the age of 18 who registers and completes the Quest will receive a special edition 2011 Acadia Quest patch and a completion certificate from Acadia National Park and Friends of Acadia.
The grand prize drawing(s) will take place on Saturday, November 5, at Take Pride in Acadia Day. Teams may use Take Pride in Acadia Day as their last event and enter their Quest card on that date. Teams that do not attend Take Pride in Acadia Day may mail or drop off their completed Quest card and any supporting self-documentation to the Friends of Acadia office by October 31, 2011, in order to be entered into the prize drawing on November 5. Teams do not have to be present to win.
Completing more than six Quest activities
The Quest is designed to be accessible to teams who have only a limited amount of time—even as little as a week—in Acadia. However, we encourage teams who have more time in the park to complete more than the minimum of six activities. The team that completes the most activities overall will receive special recognition and a surprise prize.
Following Acadia National Park Regulations while participating in Acadia Quest
All teams are responsible for knowing, and following, the rules and regulations of Acadia National Park. Acadia Quest teams that do not follow park regulations will be subject to any fees or consequences, as deemed by Acadia National Park. Find more information on the Acadia National Park website.
Leave No Trace on Your Quest
Please follow Leave No Trace principles when exploring Acadia National Park. Find more information about Leave No Trace Principles on the Acadia National Park website.
Be Safe in Acadia National Park
Visit the Acadia National Park saftey page to learn how to prepare for your visits to park and to stay safe during your Quest activities.
