TRAILS, CARRIAGE ROADS, VISTAS, & OTHER
OUTDOOR PROJECTS
Volunteers are needed on Acadia's trails and carriage roads.
June through October (weather permitting)
Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
It's not only important . . . it's fun!
WHAT: Volunteers assist with many essential projects
in Acadia National Park, like cutting back vegetation along the
trails and carriage roads, rebuilding small rock retaining walls
or drainages, maintaining historic vistas, closing "social"
paths to preserve natural areas, and cleaning up at picnic and
scenic areas.
HOW: It's simple to join a project - plan to arrive at Acadia
National Park Headquarters on Rte.233 (Eagle Lake Road) before
8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday morning. Call 207-288-3934
for a recorded message about the week's planned projects. Tools
and training provided.
GROUPS: We ask that groups larger than 4-5 volunteers call 288-8716
beforehand, to help plan appropriate projects.
WHAT TO BRING: To really enjoy the morning, bring water, snack/lunch,
and insect repellent. Dress in layers for variable Maine weather,
and wear sturdy shoes (no sandals or exposed toes).
For more information about this and other volunteer opportunities, contact Stephanie Clement at 207-288-3340 or stephanie@friendsofacadia.org.
Volunteer Work Days are Acadia Quest eligible activities
.
Acadia Quest is a series of outdoor youth- and family-oriented experiences in Acadia National Park that encourage young people and their families to explore, learn about, and protect national parks and other conserved lands.
